If you’re looking for a good replacement for a digitizer tablet, you are very well advised to check out Bormann’s graph digitizer software, DigitizeIt. You can use this application on your Windows, Mac OS X, or Linux-powered machine to digitize graphs, charts, or math data. Doing so is a relatively simple 3-step process: import a graph, define the axes system, digitize it (automatically or manually). The resulting values can be pasted into another application or saved in ASCII format.

As mentioned above, DigitizeIt is available for multiple platforms : Windows (anything from XP to 8), Mac OS X (Lion, Mountain Lion, OS X with Retina Display), Linux, and Unix. To install the application on a Windows-powered machine, you will have to download a 13.1MB executable, run it, and then follow the instructions a setup wizard displays.

The graph you imported takes up the main part of the interface. Information on the x and y-axis is presented in a panel to the right; you can hide this panel out of sight if you want to. At the top there’s a traditional File Menu and a toolbar with buttons for various functions DigitizeIt can perform. So to sum it up, it is a very simple interface that will not pose a problem from an ease of use point of view.

DigitizeIt, as already mentioned, is a graph digitizer– it can be used to digitize graphs, charts, or math data. To get a clearer picture of what DigitizeIt has to offer, here’s a quick look at its main features: import GIFm JPEG, BMP, PGN and other image files; paste graphs directly into the application, take a screenshot, export data as ASCII; automatic digitizing of line and scatter plots; zoom, mirror, rotate graphs; sort data values; linear, logarithmic and reciprocal axes; automatic and manual digitizing; support for multiple languages.

You have 21 days at your disposal to evaluate DigitizeIt’s functionality. To keep using the application once the trial expires, you will have to get a license.

Use DigitizeIt on your PC, Mac, or Linux-powered machine and efficiently digitize graphs, charts, or math data.

Pros

DigitizeIt is available for multiple platforms. The application supports multiple languages. You won’t have to go through a steep learning curve to get accustomed to the interface. Use DigitizeIt to digitize graphs, charts, or math data.

Cons

21-day trial; nag screen.
